Wild Investigators: Land, Laughter and Literacy
Wild Investigators: Land, Laughter and Literacy
Do you enjoy treasure hunts and outdoor games? Do you love exploring local water falls and creek beds? And what about literacy? Do you want to build confidence as a writer, but hate putting pencil to paper? Gather with us at a local creek to explore literacy tools for the writing process through cooperative games, treasure hunting and nature journaling.
Our adventure will give opportunities to build our self-expression muscles and to take bigger risks. It will provide tangible literacy tools for developing knowledge and understanding of the writing process and as we explore a range of language features, including different text types and playing with grammar. Our journey will see us develop writing products for our own private use and/or publication in Wild Ground’s up-coming book.
We will forage for wild nouns, collect verbs and map sentences across the land. Collaborative writing , Imaginative text , Visual Poetry, Illustration. Writing and Illustration will be tools to connect us more deeply to place.
We will use a tactile, sensory approach for building literacy skills. Handwriting skills are not essential to participate in this program. Children can use other writing tools that suit their current needs (e.g. scribing, voice-to-text, typing and audio recording).
