Artful Adventure - Upper Mtns - 17th Jan
It’s Summer! Come join us for some fun, messy nature art. Think pendulum-swinging painting, charcoal drawing and natural pigment paint creation. Dress for mess!
Our Summer holiday programs are nature play sessions for children ages 6-13 years. This session will be facilitated by Wild Ground's Dan Eleni Carey and staff.
The day will also include the usual free play, bushwalking, bushcraft (whittling, cordage) and nature connection games.
DATE:
Friday 17th January
9-2pm
Upper Mtns
Our ‘drop and leave’ adventures operate exclusively in the bush – rain, hail and shine – and will only be canceled in event of extreme weather. They focus on four core concepts:
PERMISSION TO PLAY - Saying YES to unhurried time in nature; trusting children’s own path and ability; leaning into spontaneity, playfulness and our heart space.
HONOURING CREATIVITY - Acknowledging that we are all creative beings; exploring and honouring the process of art-making without being attached to a product or achievement.
NATURE CONNECTIONLearning ways to awaken our senses; Grounding ourselves in the wildness around us as a way to connect to the wildness within;
BELONGING - Wild Ground Holiday Adventures offers children a chance to be part of a fun, supportive community and an active participant in decision-making and risk assessment;
The nature play adventure will include:
FREE, UNSTRUCTURED PLAY
Unstructured, free play is at the core of our adventures. Playing in nature gives children opportunity to have fun, while connecting deeply to their core self, others and their surrounds. Our play might take us splashing in muddy puddles, smashing up charcoal, balancing on logs, climbing trees, exploring bush trails, making nature art, telling stories, whittling with knives, using saws, building cubby houses...It's a choose your own adventure kinda space...
NATURE AWARENESS GAMES
Children will play a variety of group games and treasure hunts to get to know each other, while learning new ways to explore the bush using all their senses. We will learn to tune in more closely to the sounds, sights, smells, tastes and movements of the bush around us.
ART-MAKING
Children will have access to a range of art/craft materials for open-ended, process-driven art making. They will use treasures from nature collected during bushwalks/explorations.
BUSH CRAFT
We offer tools for open-ended, child-led play, skill-building, exploration and fun! These tools include: whittling knives, hand drills, saws, clay tools and fire-making tools. Children might choose to design and create an art-project or simply practise using the tools safely. We will also collectively tend to the campfire for bush cooking, build shelters and learn about bush safety along the way…
EXPLORER’S KIT
We offer a range of equipment for exploring the bush including: binoculars, magnifying glasses, mirrors, field guides and compasses. Children are welcome to use these in their play.
Come dressed for mud and water play! More logistical information is included in your welcome email when you book.
